Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 24, 2026 · Last Updated: July 1, 2026

Aperio ("we," "us") is a Bible reading and study app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. The short version: your faith data is private, never sold, and never used for advertising.

1. Using Aperio without an account

You can read the Bible and use Aperio's core features as a guest, without registering. In guest mode, your notes and preferences are stored only on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide. When you create an account and complete onboarding, we collect your email address, name, and optional profile details such as date of birth, gender, location (city, state, country), profession, denomination, faith journey stage, topics of interest, preferred Bible translation, Clavis tone preference, and daily reading goal.

Content you create. Prayer journal entries, personal Bible annotations and verse notes, bookmarked verses and chapters, and reading history. This content is stored securely for your use and is never shared with other users or third parties without your explicit consent.

Collected automatically. Feature usage, reading time and progress, device type and operating system, and Clavis usage counts (for rate limiting — not tied to the content of your queries).

From sign-in providers. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive basic profile information (name and email) per that provider's privacy policy and your permission settings. With Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email address from us.

3. How we use your information

4. Clavis AI

Clavis, Aperio's AI commentary engine, is powered by Anthropic's Claude API. When you use Clavis, the passage or query text is sent to Anthropic to generate a response, subject to Anthropic's privacy policy (anthropic.com/privacy). Prayer content is not sent to Clavis unless you explicitly use the prayer-to-scripture feature, and then only a limited excerpt. Commentary for popular passages is cached by passage reference — not by user identity.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it with advertisers. Aperio is ad-free. We share information only with the service providers that run the app — Supabase (authentication, database, functions), Anthropic (Clavis AI), and AO Lab (Bible text delivery; no user data is shared) — and where required by law, in a business transfer with notice to you, or with your consent.

6. Security

All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest by our backend providers. Passwords are handled by our identity provider and never stored in plain text. Access to stored data is limited to authorized systems, and all API endpoints are rate-limited. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure; report concerns to support@aperiobible.app.

7. Your rights & account deletion

Delete your account any time in the app: Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, prayers, notes, and bookmarks. You may also request deletion, data access, or corrections by emailing support@aperiobible.app. We respond to verified requests within 30 days, subject to legal retention obligations. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw consent at any time.

8. Data retention

Account data and your created content are retained while your account is active. Clavis usage logs are kept for 90 days. Upon deletion, personally identifiable data is removed promptly unless retention is required by law.

9. Children

Aperio is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Users aged 13–18 may use Aperio with parental consent. Contact us if you believe a child has provided us personal information and we will delete it promptly.

10. International users

Aperio is operated in the United States; your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. If you are in the EEA or UK, you have additional rights under GDPR. Our legal basis for processing is your consent, given when you create an account.

11. Cookies & tracking

We use only essential session cookies to keep you signed in. No tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, no third-party analytics, no behavioral tracking — ever.

12. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app and reflected in the "Last Updated" date above.
